Projects Seeking Funding
John W. Backus died in
2007, 50 years after the
release of the FORTRAN
programming language.
Backus led the IBM team
that developed FORTRAN.
ITHS is not principally a funding agency, but it will occasionally
fund IT History projects within its means. It will also help
bring attention to projects needing funding in the hope that
funds can be found from other sources.
For those seeking funding for an IT history project who either
want to have the project considered for funding by ITHS or who
want to advertise their project and search for funds, the first
step is to fill out the application form, which you can find
and submit online by CLICKING HERE.
The next step is for the ITHS archival or historical advisory
committee, as appropriate, to review the proposals. They will
review proposals twice a year, with recommendations to the ITHS
board about funding or posting on the web pages. Those seeking
funding for a project should be aware of the deadlines each year
of June 1 and December 1. Only complete online applications will
be considered. Final decisions about award funding or posting
on the web site will be made by the ITHS board.
