The service can be used to protect copyright and other intellectual property rights in digital content, and as a fundamental step in proving compliance in regulated environments. Because the service uses 'digital fingerprints' to uniquely identify content, the content itself does not have to be revealed. There is a free service for single users which allows limited use; otherwise it is a subscription service.
