The ECMAScript specification is a standardized specification of a scripting language. It was standardized by Ecma International in ECMA-262 and ISO/IEC 16262 as a subset of JavaScript. Brendan Eich created Mocha which became LiveScript, and later JavaScript. Netscape presented JavaScript to Ecma International, which develops standards and it was renamed to ECMA-262 which is also known as ECMAScript.
