Petridish is a community where scientists can showcase their research to the public and the public can show recognition to innovative researchers. The public can browse through the research projects featured on the website and support the ones they like with small donations to which they would be rewarded by the researchers with souvenirs, invitations to special events, naming rights for new discoveries, acknowledgments in journals, and more. Petridish features projects related to animal behavior, archaeology, astronomy, biology, conservation, ecology, genetics, geology, health, history, marine biology, natural history, paleontology, and social science. Petridish was launched by Ilia Papas and Matt Salzberg in 2012.
