Company Description

Yoco is a point-of-sale and payment provider to small and medium businesses in Africa.

Yoco is a point-of-sale payments company that builds tools and services to help SMEs in Africa get paid, run their business better and grow. Since launching in South Africa in late 2015, Yoco has grown to become the largest non-bank point-of-sale payments company in the market, with a merchant base of over 17,000, adding over 1,500 new merchants every month and processing $185M in card transactions per year. The growth has been achieved through a combination of new approaches to expand the market, an incentives-aligned business model, a customer-centric product development approach, a scalable distribution model and a strong company culture. In 2017, Yoco expanded its product offering by launching a point-of-sale application for retailers and has started offering working capital to its merchant base. The company has also begun its expansion into Sub-saharan Africa. The future of commerce in Africa will be driven by its small businesses, who currently constitute over 90% of all businesses. Yoco's goal is to aggregate SMEs across the continent, enabling them to trade with the rest of the economy. To date, Yoco has raised $7M in international VC funding and employs 100 people. In 2017, it was selected by CB Insights as one of the top 250 fintech companies globally.
