Bio/Description

Elected IEEE Fellow for contributions to theory, analysis, and design of efficient, secure, and privacy-preserving communication systems, Agrawal has made significant contributions to IBM's intellectual property portfolio as a designated Master Inventor.

Agrawal was born in Bikaner, Rajasthan, India. He received a B.Tech. Degree from the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IITK) in 1993, an M.S. Degree in 1995 from Washington University, St. Louis, MO (WashU), and a Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Urbana, IL, all in Electrical Engineering.

From 1999 to 2000 Agrawal worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor at UIUC, and in 2000 he joined the IBM Corporation, T. J. Watson Research Center, in Hawthorne, New York, as a Research Staff Member. He managed the Network Management Research Group at the Watson Research Center from 2006. He has also served as the U.S. Program Director for International Technology Alliance in Network and Information Sciences, a research consortium formed from twenty-three U.S. and UK industrial and academic members.

In 2011, Agrawal was elected IEEE Fellow for contributions to theory, analysis, and design of efficient, secure, and privacy-preserving communication systems. That same year, he was awarded the title of Master Inventor for contributing significant value to IBM's intellectual property portfolio and inventor community.

Agrawal is the holder of 16 patents, the latest of which was "Selective Instrumentation of Distributed Applications for Transaction Monitoring," with Shoel Perelman, United States 20100318648.
