Bio/Description
Known for his work in coding theory as applied to magnetic storage, Wolf made pioneering and sustained contributions to information theory and digital information storage. He was also an expert in signal processing for digital recording and was an early proponent of applying information and communications theory to the construction of ultra-high-density information storage.
The research results of Wolf and his students were incorporated in the design of several storage systems. He led the Signal Processing Group — dubbed the "WolfPack" — within UCSD's Center for Magnetic Recording Research.
