Bio/Description

A network protocol and software engineer who contributed extensively to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Rose has played a central role in shaping the Internet and network applications. His work on behalf of the IETF included: Area Director for network management, 1993–1995; Chair, MARID, MTA Authorization Records in DNS, IETF working group, Applications area; Chair, OPES, Open Pluggable Edge Services, IETF working group, Applications area; Chair, POP, Post Office Protocol, IETF working group, Applications area; and Chair, SNMP, Simple Network Management Protocol, IETF working group, Network Management area.

More specifically, Rose has specialized in network management, distributed systems management, applications management, email, and service-oriented architecture (SOA). He holds a Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine. He has served as Area Director for network management of the IETF and has maintained his own business, Dover Beach Consulting, in Sacramento, California.

Rose wrote and published several books, including "How to Manage Your Network Using SNMP", "Internet Messaging: From the Desktop to the Enterprise", and "The Internet Message: Closing the Book with Electronic Mail".
