Bio/Description
Former President and CEO of SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International), Myers served in that role from 1996 until stepping back from executive leadership in 2011. On January 11, 2012, he was named Director Emeritus of the SEMI International Board of Directors, joining an elite group of industry visionaries who had contributed to the development of the global industry association over an extended period of time. SEMI is the global industry association serving the manufacturing supply chains for the microelectronic, LED, display and photovoltaic industries.
For more than 50 years, Myers participated in the semiconductor industry, including 24 years as a SEMI Board member and 15 years as President and CEO of the association. He served as chairman of the SEMI International Board in 1993. Prior to his appointment as SEMI President, he worked for 17 years at Siltec, based in Salem, Oregon, a manufacturer of silicon wafers. He served as President and CEO of Siltec from 1985, and in 1986 he completed negotiations for the acquisition of Siltec by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation. In July 1996, Siltec officially changed its name to Mitsubishi Silicon America Corporation.
Preceding his time at Siltec, Myers worked for Monsanto Corporation in Cupertino, California from 1975 to 1979. The company dissolved the silicon business group, and Monsanto established a global group combining the LED operation of Monsanto and the silicon operation. He was promoted to VP and Director of Operations for Monsanto Electronics Division and took over the operations of both, which included global responsibility for Europe, Japan and North America. Monsanto had a venture with Mitsubishi Chemical Company, covering operations in Kuala Lumpur and in Jakarta, Indonesia as well as in Ghent, Belgium.
Myers has served on the boards of Ecosol, SKW Corporation, and MATEC (Maricopa Advanced Technology Education Center), and has been a member of the Engineering Advisory Council of San Jose State University. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1960.
