Right out of college Bray joined Digital Equipment Corporation in Toronto as a software specialist. In 1983, Bray left DEC for Microtel Pacific Research. In 1987 he went to the New Oxford English Dictionary project at the University of Waterloo and acted as its manager, also working on SGML. Throughout the nineties and well into 2000 Bray continued to work on web markup and standards. As of March 2010 he works for Google, focusing on Android.
