Watts S. Humphrey

Father of Software Quality who headed the IBM software team that introduced the first software license, Humphrey was awarded the National Medal of Technology for his contributions to software engineering. He founded the Software Process Program at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University, which was aimed at understanding and managing the software engineering process and resulted in the development of the Capability Maturity Model.

This work inspired the later development of the Personal Software Process (PSP) and the Team Software Process (TSP), the goal of which was to "improve quality and productivity in software development and to ease what was called the 'Software Crisis'."
