Arnold Reitsakas

Honor Roll

(b.) May 23, 1933 — (d.) February 15, 2000
Description

Responsible for the computer age in Estonia, Reitsakas started as a resident of Tallinn in 1952. He graduated from the 10th School of the Leningrad Institute of Communications in 1957. Reitsakas was a young and talented engineer who worked at the Institute of Cybernetics, where, regardless of what title he held, his main task was to build, customize, update, and implement whatever computing technology was available.

Under his leadership, the university began many dedicated years of work. All the computers and the computer center became a collective effort, and the need to manage all the tasks meant researchers were able to calculate what they needed to think through. Minsk factory computer engineers were often surprised by what Reitsakas knew how to conjure from their own computers.
