Hardware Description

Benefon Gamma was the first GSM phone to be launched after a long wait in 1997. It was manufactured by Finnish company Benefon Plc. The phone, designed by Creadesign Oy, was available in five different color options. The phone had a large three-line graphics display with a choice of font size and menu content. The Benewin program designed for the PC made it possible to create a personal phonebook on the phone, while the Benefon Maestro program allows you to “compose” your own ringtone. Benefon Gamma included 150 memory slots. At the launch of Gamma, Benefon said it was the smallest mobile phone company in the world to have developed its own GSM phone. However, Gamma was badly late for the market, too large and already partly outdated in technology when it entered the market. As early as the launch in 1997, an improved version of the phone, Gamma Gold, was launched, but sales of the phone remained relatively low.
