Bio/Description

The Interim Vice Chancellor of Research and Economic Development at Louisiana State University and Professor in the Department of Computer Science, she served previously as Associate Vice Chancellor of Research and Economic Development and Interim Dean of the Graduate School at LSU. She has also previously served as the Associate Commissioner of Sponsored Research and Development and as Louisiana NSF EPSCoR Director at the Board of Regents. She directs the Software Engineering Laboratory at LSU where her software engineering research focuses on the reengineering of systems, software requirements methodologies, and formal model transformations. She has published over 80 technical papers and has received funding from NSF, NASA, as well as private sources. She serves currently as Chair of the IEEE Fellow Committee and as a member of the Editorial Board of IEEE Computer. She has served on the IEEE Board of Directors, IEEE Executive Committee, IEEE Nominations and Appointments Committee, and IEEE Technical Activities Board. She has also served as President and Vice President of the IEEE Computer Society; Editor-in Chief for IEEE Computer, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Computer Society Fellow Committee; member of the Computer Society Board of Governors, Steering Committee of the Computer Society/ACM 2001 Computing Curriculum, Computer Society Publications Board, Computer Society Press Activities Board, and Computer Society Conferences and Tutorials Board. She served two terms as an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Speaker. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Computing Research Association. She is both an IEEE Fellow and a AAAS Fellow. She received her BA in mathematics from Carson Newman College, her MS in mathematics from the University of Tennessee, and her PhD in Computer Science from Texas A&M University. In her role as a Professor, she maintains a focus on students. She received the LSU Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award and the LSU College of Basic Sciences Graduate Teaching Award. She currently maintains an active research group, and she takes pride in having graduated numerous PhD students who are working successfully in academia and industry.
