Bay Networks was a network hardware vendor company formed through the merger of SynOptics Communications and Wellfleet Communications.

Bay Networks was a network hardware vendor company formed through the merger of SynOptics Communications and Wellfleet Communications. SynOptics and Wellfleet Communications were well established firms in the manufacture of ethernet technology and network routers.  The new company rapidly expanded through a strategy of development acquisitions. The company itself was acquired by Northern Telecom in 1998.
