Company Description

CHAMP Private Equity is one of the most successful private equity track records in Australasia.

CHAMP has one of the most successful private equity track records in Australasia, with a history of principal investment dating back to 1987. The primary investment objective of CHAMP is to achieve long-term capital appreciation in businesses located in, or otherwise having a material portion of their business plan centering on, Australia and New Zealand. CHAMP’s Singapore office provides a distinct differentiator and this presence in Southeast Asia, and ability to focus on Australia’s closest trading partners in Southeast Asia, enables CHAMP to invest in unique opportunities and accelerate portfolio company growth outside Australia far more effectively than would otherwise be the case. This 'Australia Plus' investment focus has developed over nearly 30 years as CHAMP portfolio companies have built partnerships with suppliers, customers and potential trade buyers, and developed deep networks at all levels of the business communities in these target markets. CHAMP takes an active approach to its investments, recognising that strong earnings growth is the greatest driver of value creation. Across the prior CHAMP Funds, more than 85% of total realised value creation can be directly attributed to CHAMP’s active ownership approach. Prudent leverage is also a factor in the business model, however, the real driver of value creation is sustainable earnings growth based on superior management and investment in growth initiatives. CHAMP is equally proud of its record of partnering with top flight management teams, and sharing the rewards of the success of developing portfolio companies with these teams. The substantial growth in earnings has been enhanced by portfolio management incentive plans designed to align management with value creation. These programmes have created approximately 300 millionaires from portfolio company management team members over the history of the CHAMP Group. CHAMP's investors are institutions from around the world, many of whom are now multi-fund investors with the group. CHAMP executives have played leading roles in the formation and development of industry standards through the Australian Venture Capital Association, where Joe Skrzynski and Bill Ferris have served as Presidents. Barry Zuckerman has chaired the AVCAL Reporting Guidelines Sub Committee and represents Australia on the International Private Equity Valuations Committee. CHAMP Founders, Bill Ferris and Joe Skrzynski, have been honoured with the inaugural Life Achievement Awards by both the Australian and Asian industry associations.
