Majlis Legal Centre is a forum for women's rights discourse and legal initiatives. Majlis is a group of women lawyers and social activists committed to informing, educating and empowering women on their legal rights. Majlis offers legal services, conducts legal awareness trainings, engages in policy level interventions, public campaigns and public interest litigation in order to help women access justice. Majlis’ (association) is a broad based pluralistic organisation encompassing two centers, Legal and Cultural. The founder members of Majlis have been a part of the women’s movement in India since 1980. Majlis started in 1991 as a response to a growing need for lawyers with a gender perspective who are dedicated to evolving innovative legal practices to defend women’s rights. Headed by Adv. Flavia Agnes we are an all women team comprising of lawyers and social activists. Majlis' agenda for social change is – quality legal representation for individual women in court, changing mindsets through advocacy and training and evolving gender just ideology through campaigns and interventions. Majlis is registered as a Society and Public Trust, No. F-14669 (mumbai), with an exemption from income tax under S. 80 G and an FCRA Registration.
