OnAir was created by Airbus, the leading aircraft manufacturer, and SITA, the leading IT solutions provider to the air transport world. Its roots lie in Tenzing, an Airbus-sponsored company developing in-flight e-mail and text-messaging services, and SITA’s Inflight Passenger Communications programme, which was focused on inflight mobile telephony. The idea behind the company was launched at the Farnborough International Airshow in July 2004, the name and branding were introduced at the World Airline Entertainment Association Conference in September 2004, and the company itself was incorporated in February 2005.
