Rainbow Partners pioneered the business of licensing entertainment metadata, media recognition, and recommendation solutions to consumer electronics manufacturers, software developers, internet businesses, and others. The company the exclusive licensor of Rovi's All Media Guide (AMG) music, movie, and game metadata and technology solutions to Asian based consumer electronics companies for global deployment. Rainbow Partners also built and owned the Japanese and Korean versions of the AMG databases. Licensees included Sony (PS3), Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion, iriver, NTT, and many other leading consumer electronics companies. Between 2001 and 2003, the company was Gracenoteâ€s exclusive reseller in Japan and built its consumer electronics business from the ground up. Rainbow Partners closed license deals with all major automotive and consumer electronics companies for Gracenote in Japan. Rainbow Partnerâ€s effectiveness lead to investment in Gracenote by Sequoia in 2002, and the eventual acquisition of Gracenote by Sony in 2008. Rainbow Partners was acquired by Rovi Corporation in July 2009.
