Kraftwurx is the world's platform for 3D printing in the cloud. With 74 materials and more than 121 production facilities worldwide, kraftwurx is the vanguard of the democratized manufacturing movement. Established in 2011, Kraftwurx is the brainchild of co founders Chris Norman and Kevin Hasley. kraftwurx is a spinout of Digital Reality, a company established in April 2006 who first demonstrated mass customization using browser-based interactive controls with a website of the same name. Kraftwurx was awarded the first of several patents for mass customization in September 2011 called Made to Order Digital Manufacturing Enterprise. The patent claims priority filing date to provisional application filed in 2006. The patent is embodied in a product called Digital Factory. The company claims 6 additional co pending CIP applications scheduled to award in 2013-2014. Kraftwurx operates under the concept of an Edge Manufacturing Network which attempts to optimize cost and location of production using computerized algorithms that include decision making including load balancing, production scheduling, supply chain optimization, nesting, stacking and other quality parameters that collectively optimize production worldwide. All features covered by utility patent. Products in the system exist only as a 3D model stored on a computer hard drive until the item is requested to be produced on demand. This methodology creates both optimized manufacturing and disruptively lean manufacturing by eliminating inventory and providing limitless product variety without warehousing.
